Scent Fair LA 2023
Join us for a weekend where we celebrate artisan, independent, and experimental scent practices. This fair is presented by The Institute for Art and Olfaction and Darin Klein & Friends.
Scent Fair LA aims to introduce new audiences to the world of highly conceptual scents. In addition to a curated selection of cutting-edge fragrance makers exhibiting and selling their work, the fair includes a number of related programs includes hands-on workshops presented by The Institute for Art and Olfaction and P.F. Candle Co., an opening night party with special guest DJs, and more.

Scent Fair LA: Preview Party
FRIDAY, MAY 5, 2023
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM | $35 / $30 for Members
Join us for the special preview party celebrating Scent Fair LA and be among the first to experience the various offerings at the fair, including a more intimate shopping experience, open bar, and music set by DJs Cocteautwinks + Jaqck Glam (Gay Night at Footsies, Chardogay at Melody Wine Bar). The first 30 attendees will also receive five sample fragrances from participating exhibitors.
Candle Making Workshop with P.F. Candle Co.
SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2023
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM | $75 / $70 for Members
Join P.F. Candle Co. founder Kristen Pumphrey for a container candle making workshop. Kristen will walk you through creating a custom scent blend using premium fragrance oil, and then you will learn the hand pouring technique of candle making. Ticket provides resources and instruction and makes two soy candles.
Program is in-person and indoors. Cost of program includes materials.

Program is in-person and takes place in our outdoor courtyard as well as indoors.
SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2023
2:30 PM – 4:00 PM | $75 / $70 members
Learn about the history of perfumery and create your very own scent sample. Led by The Institute for Art and Olfaction, participants will experience and smell a variety of perfume materials and use their own formula to mix their own 4ml spray vial of a new scent.
Program is in-person and indoors. Cost of program includes materials.
Art and the Senses: A Conversation with Steven Gontarski

Artist, musician, perfume expert, and Scent Bar manager Steven Gontarski joins Saskia Wilson-Brown, founder and executive director of The Institute for Art and Olfaction, in a rousing discussion about art and the senses. In an informal chat, the discussion will explore olfactory art, music... and the business of perfume.

Incense Cone Workshop with P.F. Candle Co.

Join P.F. Candle Co. founder Kristen Pumphrey and learn how to make hand-rolled incense cones – a meditative and aromatic project straight from her book At Home with Fragrance. Kristen will walk you through a selection plant and resin materials of their olfactory benefits, and you will create a custom blend for your incense cones. Ticket provides instruction and resources, and makes approx 20 incense cones.
