Black – Still
May 28, 2023 — September 10, 2023
Black – Still is a multi-sensory installation by the interdisciplinary practice enFOLD Collective. Organized by Materials & Applications and presented in Craft Contemporary’s outdoor courtyard, the project’s design and its complementing programs explore narratives of wellness, access, and cultural expression with specific attention to marginalized communities. Rendered in simple, familiar materials, the project’s reverential volume is responsive to various obstacles on, above, and beneath the ground, while its dark finish evokes the tar running underground and celebrates Black in a response to traditional and modernist notions in architecture predicated on whiteness.
Black – Still is the second iteration of the M&A x Craft Contemporary program, a multi-year partnership which explores craft through art and architecture.
