Book Signing, Talk, Q&A: Margaret Wertheim on Value and Transformation of Corals
Saturday, January 7, 2023 12:00pm - 2:00pm Free
To celebrate the release of the new book, Value and Transformation of Corals, co-author Margaret Wertheim joins us for a special presentation on the Crochet Coral Reef project, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Learn more about the world’s largest art + science project, a massive worldwide response to the disappearing wonder of living reefs that also highlights the creative power of collective human action.
The Crochet Coral Reef project was established here in Los Angeles by Margaret and Christine Wertheim of the Institute For Figuring, in 2005, and has since become an international sensation, exhibited at the Venice Biennale, Helsinki Biennial, and elsewhere. A gorgeous hardbound book, distributed by D.A.P. in conjunction with their major retrospective at Museum Frieder Burda in Germany, includes essays about the scientific, mathematical, environmental, and community dimensions of the project, as well as 200 pages of stunning photos documenting this global, craftivist, supra-human happening.
Books will be available for purchase in the Craft Contemporary Shop. Program is in-person and indoors. Pre-order the book here to have it ready upon arrival.
